Jermyn Street’s Open Door Series will be honouring the brands and businesses that make our street the home of gentleman’s style, and the pinnacle of British craftsmanship, by spotlighting your favourite brands, and the people behind them, as we invite you through our doors once more!

Geo. F. Trumper are recognised as one of the finest gentleman’s barbers and perfumers in London.  The brand began life on Curzon Street, Mayfair over 100 years ago, and their second store in St James’s is a testament to their success.  Skill and artistry is at the backbone of the company and, over the years, their offering has grown to also include many gentleman’s grooming products and accessories.

Trumpers was first established as a gentleman’s barber shop by George Francis William Trumper born in 1875, who was not only an accomplished barber but a master perfumer and astute businessman.  In 1875, it was customary for the gentry to have their personal grooming carried out at home by their own staff.  Mr Trumper consequently designed his barbershop in an intimate manner, reminiscent of the gentleman’s clubs that were hugely popular at that time.  He created a warm and inviting atmosphere where gentlemen could enjoy being attended to in their own private cubicle, a tradition that has continued to this day.  This refined approach to grooming meant that Geo. F. Trumper’s popularity with the gentry flourished and the brand quickly made a name for itself among the British elite.  The company soon came to the notice of the Royal Household and was awarded its first Royal Warrant from Queen Victoria, as Court Hairdresser.  This Royal Warrant was the first of many, and Trumpers have gone on to receive one from each successive monarch thereafter.

Mr Trumper himself created Trumpers’ internationally-famous product range, and many of his formulas are still used to this day.  He was an expert perfumer who blended his products in the basement of his Curzon Street store, using natural essential oils sourced from around the globe.  Over the years, Trumpers’ range of products has grown to meet the changing demands of each generation, but they are still crafted from the finest oils and fragrances the world has to offer.  Their most famous products and services have found their way into popular culture, with Ian Flemming writing, in ‘On Her Majesty’s Secret Service’, that James Bond finds Eucris cologne in his bathroom and, in Evelyn Waugh’s revered novel ‘Brideshead Revisited’, Charles Ryder, Sebastian Flye and Boy Mulcaster all receive a shave from Trumpers after spending the night in jail.

Today, you can visit Trumpers’ establishment at 1 Duke of York Street for haircutting, moustache and beard trimming, a traditional wet shave or even a manicure and pedicure.  Trumpers believe that all men should know how to perfect their shave by learning the best shave for their skin type, and opened their Shave School in 1990.  You can enjoy a one-to-one class with one of their experts and find the right shaving techniques for you, or simply stop by for the sheer luxury of a wet shave or a facial cleanse and massage.  Jermyn Street is overjoyed to see Geo. F. Trumper welcoming their discerning clientele through their iconic doors once more.  If you are unable to visit in person but crave the Geo. F. Trumper treatment, why not visit their online store where you can find their full range of outstanding products.
