For those craving vibrant colours and bold prints after a long, sun-starved winter, there’s still time to catch Brasil! Brasil! The Birth of Modernism at the Royal Academy of Arts before the show closes on April 21. The exhibition captures the 60 years from 1910 to 1970 through 130 works by ten pioneering Brazilian artists, all celebrating the country’s rich diversity through their art. The edit includes work by self-taught women artists of indigenous descent. For instance, Tarsila do Amaral’s ‘Lake oil on canvas 1928’ featured above is just one of the many standout pieces combining bold colours and highly simplified forms that have put modernism in Brazil firmly on the map.
