Department for Business and Trade — Support for Exporting to India

Following our earlier work with the Department for Business and Trade on the UK–India trade agreement, we are encouraging members exporting to India, or exploring the market, to review the registration and rules of origin requirements needed to benefit from preferential tariffs.

UK producers and exporters planning to complete origin declarations under the agreement must register with HMRC. You will need your business’s EORI number, business or trading name and the email addresses you will use to submit declarations. Goods must also meet the agreement’s rules of origin.

View HMRC’s guidance and register here.

To help members through the process, I have discussed a practical sign-up session with DBT, and HMRC colleagues have offered to support this and answer questions as businesses complete their registration. If this would be useful to your team, please let me know so I can coordinate interest.

For questions about the process, our DBT contact, Alex Green, has invited members to contact him directly at

[email protected].

Please also keep me informed of any difficulties or support you would find helpful, so the JSA can follow these up on your behalf.
